The catalogue for the Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale, featuring 14 yearlings by the late 12-time European Champion Sire Galileo (Ire), is now online.

Slated for Oct. 5-7, the sale is also jam-packed with yearlings by fellow top sires Dubawi (Ire) (20), Frankel (GB) (24), Kingman (GB) (43), Lope de Vega (Ire) (43), and Sea The Stars (Ire) (34) just to name a few. Of the 502 yearlings-all eligible for the £20,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus–set to go through the ring at Park Paddocks, there are half- or full-siblings to 47 Classic and Group 1 winners and 248 Group/Listed winners. A total of 21 Group 1-winning mares are represented by yearlings.

Another 89 yearlings are divided between Dark Angel (Ire), the late Zoffany (Ire), Australia (GB), No Nay Never and Kodiac (GB). From farther afield, there are also yearlings by France-based sires Le Havre (Ire) (4) and Siyouni (Fr) (12), as well as American stallions American Pharoah (2), Candy Ride (Arg) (1), and Speightstown (1).

In addition, reverse shuttle sire and Australian standout Zoustar (Aus) (8) has his first crop of Northern Hemisphere-bred yearlings.

Galileo's chestnut daughter (lot 82) is one of the highlights on paper, as she is a full-sister to GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf hero Line of Duty (Ire). Other fillies of note include: a Dubawi (Ire) filly out of Waldlerche (GB) (Monsun {Ger}) (lot 336) and thus a half-sister to champion and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Waldgeist (GB) (Galileo {Ire}); a Lope de Vega half-sister (lot 305) to both 2021 G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud hero Broome (Ire) (Australia {GB}) and his full-brother Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}), who scored in the G3 Tyros S. and is favoured for next year's G1 2000 Guineas and G1 Derby;  Kingman (GB) half-sisters to G1 Prix de la Foret hero Aclaim (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) (lot 386) and French 1000 Guineas victress Beauty Parlour (GB) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) (lot 404); a half-sister to GI Belmont Derby Invitational winner Bolshoi Ballet (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (lot 369) by No Nay Never; G1 Moyglare Stud S. heroine Cursory Glance (Distorted Humor)'s half-sister by Sea the Stars (Ire) (lot 318); a Zoustar (Aus) half-sister (lot 10) to Group 1-winning sprinter Golden Horde (Ire) (Lethal Force {Ire}); and a full-sister to French champion juvenile Shalaa (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) (lot 46).

Classic winners and Group 1 producers Nightime (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Sky Lantern (Ire) (Red Clubs {Ire}) both have yearling colts by Kingman (GB) as lots 178-a half-brother to champion Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire})–and 274, who is a half-brother to recent G1 Falmouth S. winner Snow Lantern (GB) (Frankel {GB}), respectively. Other Classic-winning mares with yearlings catalogued are Attraction (GB) (Efisio), who has a colt by Dubawi (Ire) (lot 397); and Miss France (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), who produced a Galileo (Ire) filly in 2020 (lot 155). Kingman is the sire of G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Danedream (Ger) (Lomitas {GB})'s bay filly (lot 475). Stellar racemares Persuasive (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) (lot 201), The Fugue (GB) (Dansili {GB}) (lot 313) and Vorda (Fr) (Orpen) (lot 333) have colts entered by Frankel (GB), Shamardal, and Siyouni (Fr), respectively.

Despite the difficulties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of Book 1 grossed 82,385,000gns for 369 sold. The average was 223,266gns and the median was 130,000gns. Of the 10 yearlings to make 1 million guineas, the filly by Galileo out of Group 1 producer Shastye (Ire) (Danehill) took top honours at 3,400,000gns.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said, “The catalogue for Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale looks another vintage edition with an impressive number of yearlings closely related to outstanding racehorses of recent years.

“October Book 1 purchases have enjoyed a remarkable 2021 on the racecourse with the world's highest rated horse, St Mark's Basilica (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), leading the way alongside the world's highest rated miler Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}), the Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris winner Hurricane Lane (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) as well as Domestic Spending (GB) (Kingman {GB}), the highest rated turf horse in North America.

“All 502 yearlings are eligible for the enormously popular £20,000 October Book 1 Bonus which has paid out more than £6,000,000 in bonuses to the 243 winners over the past six years and will again ensure that buyers have the chance to win unprecedented prize money by purchasing at Europe's premier yearling sale.”
